The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states in Article 26:

Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit.

It is arguable that an education in the 21st century is not complete without equal access to computers.

The One Laptop Per Child Association, Inc. (OLPC) is a non-profit organization set up to oversee the creation of a cheap, affordable educational device for use in the third world. Its current focus is on the development, construction and deployment of the XO-1 laptop to promote children’s education in developing nations.
