how you can help
There are many ways that you can help out. Firstly, if you know very little about the political/human rights situation in Burma, we suggest you read up about this. Have a look at some of the organisations' websites on our links page.
Below are some more specific ways that you can help out.
volunteer
There are many organisations on the Thailand / Burma border who rely on volunteers for a large proportion of their work. Usually it is preferred that the volunteer commits to three months or more, although some organisations accept voluntary workers for shorter time frames. Whether you have particular media-related skills, or not, we can help put you in touch with individuals or groups who may benefit most from your skills and experience.
In time, bordermedia hope to be able to start placing IT volunteers in various organisations, short & longer term. You needn't necessarily possess a computer science degree. It is often the case that patience and a smile go a lot further! If you have worked professionally using computers (but not necessarily in the IT industry), and are fairly confident with your Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.), you may find yourself in high demand as a volunteer IT teacher.
Of course, if you have worked professionally in the IT industry, and possess more specialist skills, these will also inevitably be in demand.
If you are interested in getting involved, and giving some of your time to help people who are perhaps in a less fortunate position than you, or just want to find out a bit more about how you might be able to help, please do get in touch with us.
donations
Again, there are many organisations on the Thailand / Burma border who would benefit from financial and material donations, however small. Many of these organisations rely purely on private donations to continue their work.
Material donations like clothing, study materials, and medicine are always welcome. Get in touch if you would like to donate something. |
